Welcome to the Legends League TWF1 Autumn 2010 Championship! The Autumn TWF1 season kicks off on Sunday, September 5th, 2010.
Within these pages you will find the information needed regarding the season format, the tracks we will be racing, the handicapping system, the teams championship which will be running alongside the drivers championship. Most importantly, you will find out specific information on the GP 79 League Edition that we will be using, along with our customized option and damage file which must be installed.
There is a substantial amount of information to take in so please grab a beer, glass of wine or cup of coffee and take the time to understand what will be happening. At the very least you need to know:
Season Format
For the first time in TWF1, we will be splitting our season between two different mods: F1-1971, which model the Formula One 1971 cars, and Grand Prix 79 League Edition, which model the Formula One 1979 cars. The season will be split at mid season; the opening 4 races of the season will be in the 1971 cars, the remaining 4 races of the season will be in the 1979 cars.
F1 Classic - F1-1971 LE Mod - The latest release from the F1 Classic crew, these beautiful cars model the entire 1971 Formula One field. We are using the League Edition of the mod, all chassis physics and engines are modelled exactly the same. Effectively, even though the cars may look and sound dramatically different, they all feel and perform exactly alike.
GP79 League Edition Mod - Although will be using the standard GP79 League Edition mod once again this season, the mod is drastically different from it's 1971 counterpart. Each chassis is modelled differently in both engine and chassis handling. We will again be using our Legends Leauge modified damage and options file which must be installed. This file can be easily removed at any time so that you can use this install on outside servers. Changes from the standard GP79 LE mod are:
Tire Wear - Fuel Usage - Parc Ferme
For both series, tire wear has been increased [3x]. For the 1971's the tire wear is such that you can complete an entire race without stopping for fresh tires, but you better manage them well or expect a severe drop off in performance at race end! For the 1979's, the decision becomes soft compund or hard compound. The choice is yours!
We have also increased fuel usage for both series. This strategy will again force drivers to consider; pit stop or no pit stop?
And just to enforce this concept of tire wear strategy and fuel load strategy, we are also for the first time in Legends going to experiment with Parc Ferme. For those of you unfamiliar with the term or concept, Parc Ferme simply means that once your Qualifying session begins [you've posted an official laptime in Qualifying], you will no longer be allowed to alter your setup [in any way] until the race begins.*
Essentially the idea is to adopt a race tactic BEFORE Qualifying [and not waiting till the last minute to ask "How much Fuel?', etc]. With the tire wear settings at 3X and the fuel at 2X, it really forces one to decide on either a no-stop or 1 stop strategy both in terms of fuel and tires. You could go non-stop but it means a pretty heavy fuel load and the tires would see pretty severe degradation by race end, and thus higher laptimes. It would also possibly set you further back on the grid because of this, as once you post a time in Qualifying you can no longer adjust anything, fuel load or fuel strategy included. On the other hand, if you chose a 1 [or even more] stop strategy, you could lighten the fuel load in qualifying which would allow for a potentially better starting grid position, a lighter car during the race, and eliminate the worry of tire wear at race end [if you chose to change tires too]. Of course, the price paid is the time in the pits. *Once the race begins, you can still adjust your pit stop strategy but it's strictly on the fly as allowed by rFactor.
Handicapping
Yet another first for Legends, we will be introducing a new handicap system, along with keeping our traditional GP79 chassis handicapping. As the F1-1971 LE mod has equal performing chassis's, we have worked out a new handicap system which will assign a ballast adjustment [add weight] for the race podium finishers. THis ballast system will carry over int othe GP79 portion of the season, but with a mid season 'reset' taking place. See the handicapping information page for more details.
Grid Sizes
Big grid sizes can be lots of fun. But they can greatly increase the chances of race destroying accidents in the early laps which are very frustrating to those caught up in them. We are taking the opportunity of the two divisions to impose a maximum grid size of 32 drivers per race.
Team Championship
We hope that as many of you as possible will form a team with another driver this season.
Club Races-A more relaxed affair
The week leading up to a Sunday TWF1 Championship race meeting, we have what is referred to as "Club Races" on Thursday & Saturday (times stipulated on the right hand side of the main page). This is an ideal opportunity to join the server, meet and race with other drivers, exchange set ups, advice and views. Most importantly though are the actual fun races that will take place. These races (not full race distance) run through the full race sequence, in other words, they are a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Sunday championship race which is the "real deal", after practice you will qualify, warm up and then enter the grid, complete the formation lap, position your car in your grid slot THEN wait for the Green light to start the race and away you go. All members, from veterans to rookies always learn something new during the club days.
Also, to help attract new members, the club days are open to guests who are looking to join our league. No password is necessary, all you need is rFactor v1.255, the GP79 Mod V2.01 available from www.rFactorcentral.com and our Customized file.
Season Registration
Drivers will need to register for the championship in order to particpipate.
Car Skins etc
Although certainly not mandatory we would very much like as many of you as possible to customise your car. It was a pleasure to see so many great liveries on the track last season and we hope for this to continue. Check the TWF1 Forum for more information regarding skins.
